Dryers

Did you know that your clothes dryer is a potential fire hazard?Did you know that your clothes dryer is a potential fire hazard?

Dryer vent fires are reported to be the number one cause of household fires at an estimated 15,500 a year nationwide. Lint builds up in your machine, hose, duct and pest screen. Clogs lead to elements overheating and sparking. The machine is forced to work longer and harder which decreases clothing life and increases electricity bills.

This is often the case when your dryer vent duct has not been designed or installed properly. We come across a lot of illegal set ups involving plastic hoses and ducts held together with only twist ties or tape. Clamps should always be used to secure the machine to the hose, the hose to the exhaust duct and to combine duct piping.

Warning signs:

1) Long drying times. Your clothes are taking longer and longer to dry every time.

2) There is condensation on the machine housing or it is hot to the touch.

3) The exhaust screen is clogged or the wrong size, the exhaust flap doesn't open or is broken.

4) The machine is covered with lint or you notice lint flying around.

5) You have a dangerous plastic hose instead of a much safer aluminum or metal hose.

6) You've never had an inspection or it has been over a year since the last one.

7) You are overloading the machine daily, large apartments with few machines or dog walkers.

8) There is a burning smell.

9) There is no exhaust port. You don't know where the machine exhausts to.

10) There are water stains on your ceiling or walls from your crawlspaces that are filled with wet lint.
